A Conversation With Chloé De Barros: A Designer Creating With Intention

A look inside the world of French creator Chloé De Barros, her timeless aesthetic, and the handmade pieces that have captured my heart this season.

There is something incredibly special about discovering a designer whose work feels both personal and deeply intentional. French creator Chloé De Barros is one of those rare talents. I first found her through social media years ago, drawn to her slow-fashion approach, her soft aesthetic, and the sincerity behind every piece she shared. Over time, she transitioned from influencer to designer, creating small collections by hand and shaping a universe that feels warm, thoughtful, and beautifully timeless.

When she released the Giulia cape, I immediately fell in love and ordered it on the spot. It has become one of my favorite pieces this season. Each time I wear it, I receive so many compliments, and I feel honored knowing it was handmade in France by such a talented designer. This sense of authenticity and craftsmanship made me want to learn more about her story and share it with you.

Chloé’s journey into fashion began long before her brand officially existed. Her childhood was filled with fabrics, sketches, and afternoons watching her mother work in fashion. Creativity surrounded her from the very beginning. At seven years old, she received her first sewing machine and began crafting dresses for her Barbies. What felt like a simple childhood activity became the foundation of a lifelong calling.

Her universe today is shaped by that same tenderness and curiosity. She creates not to follow trends but to design pieces that feel timeless and deeply considered. Her inspiration often begins with something simple, such as a texture, a color, or a fleeting moment, which then grows into a full collection. At the heart of her work is a deep love for creating garments meant to be cherished over time.

I love imagining clothing that can be worn today, in a year, or even in ten, without ever growing tired of it.”

If Chloé’s brand were a place, she describes it as an autumn street paved with old stones and lined with historic buildings. A place where the warmth of the past meets the elegance of the present. It is a universe filled with softness, intention, and quiet emotional beauty.

One of the most striking expressions of her vision is the Giulia cape. The idea began with a fabric she loved and golden buttons she had saved for the perfect design. She wanted a garment that felt free yet structured, soft yet defined. A piece a woman can slip into and immediately feel like herself.

Chloé creates every piece by hand, producing in small quantities or made to order. This slow-fashion rhythm shapes her relationship with her garments and with the women who wear them. She sews from start to finish, giving each piece a sense of intention and authenticity that is rare today.

“I know exactly who I am sewing for, and I love that more direct relationship. They receive a piece made especially for them, with care and intention.”

Her work is guided by three simple values that are present in every stitch: timelessness, quality, and sincerity. She believes in creating less, but creating better, with pieces designed to live comfortably in a woman’s wardrobe for years.

As for the future, Chloé hopes to continue growing her brand while remaining faithful to her universe. She wants to explore new creative avenues, share her work on a more international scale, and design garments that women feel confident, free, and in harmony with.

Quiet elegance, thoughtful craftsmanship, and emotional intention. This is the world of Chloé De Barros, a designer whose pieces feel like companions through the seasons.

To dive even deeper into her world, here is our full conversation in its original French, followed by the English translation below.

Interview in English

Can you tell me the story behind the creation of your brand?

Chloé: The story of my brand is truly the result of a dream that has been with me since childhood. My mother always worked in fashion, lingerie, and swimwear, so I grew up surrounded by fabrics, sketches, and creativity. At 7 years old, I received my first sewing machine and started making dresses for my Barbies.
From that moment on, I always knew I wanted to work in fashion and, one day, create my own brand. I studied fashion for five years, learning every step involved in creating a garment, from sketch to production. After graduating, I worked for a lingerie company. And even though I enjoyed my job, I constantly felt the need to create for myself. I sewed my own pieces, which I shared on social media.

One day, I posted a holiday look. The responses were incredibly positive; many people encouraged me to launch my own brand and offer my creations. That wave of support was the turning point. Six months later, I released my first spring/summer collection, sewing in the evenings and on weekends alongside my full-time job.

And I haven’t stopped since. It has now been six years, and with each collection, I rediscover the same feeling, the feeling of creating something that comes from within me and sharing it with the women who follow and trust me.

What inspires you when you create?

Chloé: When I create, I’m inspired above all by the season, a place, a moment, always guided by the desire to design timeless pieces that last through the years. I want women to embrace my creations and make them their own, season after season.

I like imagining clothing that can be worn today, in a year, or in ten, without ever growing tired of it. Often, everything begins with a simple detail. A texture, a color, or a feeling can be enough to build an entire collection.

If the universe of your brand were a place or an atmosphere, how would you describe it?

Chloé: If my brand’s universe were a place or an atmosphere, it would be autumn. I imagine a place full of history, a cobblestone street lined with old buildings where you can feel both the charm of the past and the timeless elegance of the present.

When you begin imagining a piece like the Giulia cape, what is the first element that emerges? The material, the cut, a sensation, a scene, a gesture?

Chloé: For the Giulia cape, everything began with the material. I already had a fabric that inspired me deeply, along with golden buttons I had been saving for the right piece. This season, I wanted a cape in which you feel both free and perfectly comfortable. A timeless piece with just the right amount of structure.

You create in small batches and by hand. How does that change your relationship with the garment, your rhythm, your intention, and your proximity with the women who wear your pieces?

Chloé: Creating by hand and in small quantities completely changes the way I work. I take my time with each piece, making it from start to finish, which makes it truly unique and authentic.

Producing made-to-order also allows me to keep a more thoughtful rhythm, without overproduction, and to stay closer to my clients. I know exactly who I’m sewing for, and I love that more direct relationship. They receive a piece made especially for them, with care and intention.

What values or convictions guide your way of designing and producing?

Chloé: Three essential values guide the way I create, timelessness, quality, and sincerity. I want to offer pieces that last, pieces you can wear season after season. Producing the garments myself, made-to-order or in small quantities, allows me to stay true to that vision, creating less but creating better.

How would you like the person who wears your creations to feel?

Chloé: I want the woman who wears my creations to feel confident, free, and in harmony with her body, for each piece to support her in her daily life and allow her to move through the world with elegance and ease.

Is there a memory, a step, or a moment in your journey as a designer that holds a special place in your heart?

Chloé: The day I launched my brand is a very strong memory. I was excited and a little nervous, but that moment taught me to create according to what feels true to me. Today, every piece I design comes from that desire to share my universe.

And for the future, what are your wishes or projects?

Chloé: For the future, I want to continue growing my brand while staying true to my universe, creating timeless pieces that bring confidence and elegance to the women who wear them.

I would also love to explore new creative horizons and share my work on a more international scale. My goal is simply to keep creating clothing that women are happy to wear every day.

What stays with me most after speaking with Chloé is the quiet sincerity woven through everything she creates. Her pieces carry a softness that feels deeply personal, yet an elegance that stands the test of time. There is intention in every detail, a sense of gentleness and craft that invites women to slow down, savor the moment, and feel at ease in their own skin. Her world reminds us that fashion can still be intimate, thoughtful, and beautifully human.

Sharing Chloé’s story feels like opening a small window into a creative universe built on emotion, craftsmanship, and timeless design. Her work is a beautiful reminder that handmade pieces have a soul, shaped by the hands that create them and the women who wear them. If you feel drawn to her world, I encourage you to explore her collections, connect with her, and discover her creations for yourself!
