The Sézane Percy Coat: A Timeless Camel Layer for Fall & Winter

There's something so timeless about a beautiful camel coat, particularly as we transition into the cooler months. Offering that lovely balance of warmth and effortless elegance, it's a classic addition to any fall and winter wardrobe. I especially love styles that carry the essence of a traditional trench coat, with the added coziness of wool for the season ahead.

Over the years, I've slowly added a few Sézane outerwear pieces to my wardrobe, from the Will Suede Jacket to the Clyde Trench, and most recently, the Percy Coat in camel. Each has its own charm, and I've loved incorporating these classic silhouettes into my everyday style.

I've been looking for a beautiful wool coat to add to my outerwear collection, something with a classic silhouette, a lovely sense of warmth and the versatility to wear throughout fall and winter. The Percy Coat from Sézane, with its elegant design and timeless camel color, is exactly what I had in mind.

Since receiving it, I've already enjoyed styling it with some of my favorite wardrobe staples, from denim to satin pants and tailored trousers. So, I wanted to share a closer look at the Percy, a few of my notes, and some things I like to consider when shopping for wool coats.

Meet the Sézane Percy Coat

Founded in Paris, Sézane is a French fashion brand I've loved for years, particularly for its beautiful knitwear, classic outerwear and thoughtful approach to everyday dressing. Its collections have that effortless Parisian charm I naturally gravitate toward, with pieces that feel both contemporary and timeless.

The Percy brings together two of my favorite outerwear styles, combining the familiar details of a traditional trench with the warmth and beautiful texture of a wool coat.

It features a double-breasted front, a tie belt at the waist, raglan sleeves and buttoned tabs at the cuffs, along with a back yoke that gives it that lovely trench-inspired character.

The Percy is made from 75% wool and 25% recycled polyamide, bringing together the natural insulating properties of wool with the added durability of a blended fabric. The fabric is woven in Italy, with the coat itself made in Bulgaria.

And, of course, there's the camel color. It's such a beautiful, classic shade that works wonderfully with the neutrals I wear most often, and one I can see myself returning to for years to come.

My Notes

Having worn and loved Sézane for years, I've come to appreciate the thoughtful details that make the brand's classic pieces so special.

The Percy has been a lovely addition to my wardrobe, and after spending some time styling it, here are a few of my notes:

  • Sizing & Fit: I chose the US size 4 (FR 36) in the Percy. For reference, I'm 5'4", and the coat falls around mid-calf on me. I love its slightly oversized silhouette, which gives me plenty of room to layer my favorite knits underneath as the temperatures cool. The relaxed fit also drapes beautifully when worn open, while the waist belt allows for a more defined shape.

  • Color: I went with camel, a warm neutral that pairs beautifully with cream, chocolate brown, black and denim. I especially love how it complements the colors I naturally gravitate toward throughout fall and winter.

  • Fabric & Weight: The 75% wool composition was one of the details I appreciated when choosing the Percy. I love its beautiful texture and relaxed, unlined construction, which makes it a lovely piece for layering throughout fall and winter.

  • Silhouette & Details: I love the relaxed yet elegant shape of the Percy, especially how the longer length falls when worn open. The waist belt is another lovely detail, allowing me to create a more defined silhouette depending on the outfit.

  • Versatility: This is perhaps what I've enjoyed most so far. Whether worn over denim, satin pants or tailored trousers, the Percy brings such a beautiful finishing touch to an outfit.

A Few Notes on Shopping for Wool Coats

As I've become more thoughtful about the pieces I add to my wardrobe, I've found myself paying closer attention to fabrics, construction and the details that make a coat worth investing in. Here are a few things I like to consider when shopping for wool outerwear:

  • Fabric Composition: Wool is naturally insulating and breathable, making it a beautiful choice for winter outerwear. I love looking for coats with a high wool content, whether 100% wool or a thoughtful blend like the Percy, made from 75% wool and 25% recycled polyamide for added durability.

  • Fabric Weight: The thickness and density of the fabric contribute to a coat's warmth. I like to consider the climate and how I plan to wear it, whether as an everyday layer or for particularly chilly days.

  • Lining: Both lined and unlined coats have their appeal. Lined designs can offer additional comfort and wind protection, while unlined styles, like the Percy, often have a lighter feel and a beautiful, natural drape.

  • Fit & Layering: I always consider how a coat fits over my favorite knitwear, paying attention to the shoulders, sleeves and overall silhouette. A comfortable fit makes it that much easier to enjoy throughout the season.

How I'm Styling the Percy This Fall & Winter

Shop the Looks

One of my favorite things about the Percy is how easily it complements different outfits, from casual everyday looks to more dressed-up occasions. Here are a few ways I've been wearing it and how I'm planning to style it throughout the season:

  • With Denim: A classic combination I always come back to. My favorite jeans, a cozy knit and a pair of ballet flats or ankle boots for an effortlessly chic everyday look.

  • With Tailored Trousers: I love pairing the camel with cream, chocolate brown or black trousers for an elegant, polished outfit. Add a beautiful leather handbag and simple accessories to complete the look.

  • With Satin Pants: One of my favorite combinations so far. The contrast between the wool-blend fabric and the soft sheen of satin creates a lovely mix of textures.

  • Over a Holiday Dress: The Percy also makes a beautiful finishing layer for festive occasions. I love the idea of wearing it over a silk or velvet dress with delicate jewelry and a pair of heels for an elegant holiday look.

  • With Knitwear: As the temperatures cool, I'm looking forward to layering it over my favorite Sézane sweaters, paired with classic denim or trousers and a beautiful scarf.

Final Thoughts

I've always loved the idea of building a wardrobe around pieces that feel beautiful to wear today and just as relevant years from now.

What I particularly appreciate about the Percy is how naturally it fits into the way I already dress. I can throw it over my favorite jeans and knitwear for an everyday look, pair it with trousers for something a little more polished, or layer it over a beautiful dress for an evening out.

It's exactly the kind of coat I had hoped to add to my wardrobe this winter, and I'm so happy to have found it in such a classic color.

I'm looking forward to all the ways I'll continue wearing it throughout the season and for years to come!
