Sézane Knitwear: New Additions & Longtime Favorites

Knitwear is always one of my favorite parts of dressing for fall and winter. Once the temperatures start to drop, I’m usually happiest in a great sweater, denim or trousers, my favorite handbags and a few simple accessories.

Sézane has become a big part of my knitwear wardrobe over the years. The Barry, Gaspard and Betty are a few of the styles I continue to bring back into rotation season after season, and this year I added three new knits to the mix: the Pauline Jumper in black and ecru, and the Joseph Jumper in a beautiful chestnut brown.

So today, I wanted to share a closer look at the new pieces I’m wearing this season, how I’ve been styling them, and a few of the Sézane knits that have been longtime favorites in my wardrobe!

A Little About Sézane

Sézane has become one of the most recognizable names in contemporary French fashion. Founded by Morgane Sézalory in 2013, the brand began online and has since grown into a much broader world of ready-to-wear, accessories, home and menswear.

I’ve been wearing Sézane for years now, and while knitwear is definitely one of the categories I come back to most, there are a few other pieces that have become favorites in my wardrobe too. I love their Tomboy button-downs, and I also recently added the Clyde trench after having it on my wishlist for years.

That’s part of what keeps me coming back to the brand: there are certain pieces that feel easy to wear, easy to style, and very much at home in the wardrobe I’m already building.

New Sézane Sweaters for My Wardrobe

Sézane introduced plenty of new knitwear for fall, and a few pieces immediately caught my eye. I was especially drawn to styles with a little more shape and detail this season, from defined waists and fuller sleeves to softer, more relaxed silhouettes. These were the pieces that ultimately joined my wardrobe, and I’ve already been finding plenty of ways to work them into what I’m wearing now.

The Pauline was one of those pieces I loved right away.

I have more of an hourglass shape, so I’m always drawn to pieces that define the waist, and that’s what first stood out to me here. The Pauline is fitted through the waist with fuller, softly billowed sleeves, and I love the shape it creates.

In black, it feels especially polished and a little sharper, which I love with denim, tailored trousers and simple accessories.

I also love that it can be worn in reverse. Styled one way, you have the deeper neckline in front; turn it around and it becomes a boat neck with an open back, which gives the sweater a completely different feel.

After trying the black Pauline, I immediately went back and purchased the ecru version. When I really love the cut or fit of something, I tend to buy it in more than one color because I already know it’s the kind of piece I’ll wear for years.

What I like about the ecru is how soft the same silhouette feels in a lighter shade. It works beautifully with camel, chocolate brown, cream and denim, and feels especially easy with the neutral palette I tend to wear through fall and winter.

I’ve also been styling this one a little differently, especially with the boat neckline in front and the open back, which gives it a softer, more feminine feel.

It’s the same shape I loved in black, but the ecru gives me a completely different way to wear it.

The Joseph brings a completely different feel to my knitwear wardrobe.

It’s a cozy crewneck in a beautiful chestnut brown, finished with a removable matching scarf that can be styled around the neck, draped over the shoulder, or removed entirely.

I especially love the scarf detail. It feels like a natural extension of the sweater and gives you another way to play with the styling depending on the outfit.

I’ve been wearing mine with white satin pants and ballet flats, and I can already picture it with denim, boots and a long coat later in the season.

Chestnut brown is also such an easy neutral for fall and winter, pairing beautifully with cream, white, camel, denim and black.

How I’m Styling My Three New Sézane Knits

I wanted to show the new pieces in motion too, especially since the shape of the Pauline and the scarf detail on the Joseph really come through once they’re styled. In the video below, I’m wearing the Pauline in black and ecru, along with the Joseph in chestnut brown, each styled with some of my favorite pieces already in my wardrobe!

I kept the styling fairly simple for these three looks, pairing the knits with denim, trousers, flats, some of my favorite handbags and accessories I naturally reach for this time of year. I’ve linked the pieces from each outfit here and below if you’d like a closer look:

A Few More Sézane Knits I Love

The new arrivals are always fun, but some of my favorite Sézane knits are the ones that have been living in my wardrobe for years. The Betty, Gaspard and Barry are a few pieces I continue to come back to season after season, and they’ve become some of the knits I reach for most throughout the year.

The Betty is one of my longtime favorites, and I own it in several colors. I’ve always loved the structure of this style; it sits somewhere between a cardigan and a little knit jacket, which is usually how I like to wear mine. I tend to style it open over a white T-shirt or simple top with denim or trousers, and I like how easily it gives a simple outfit a little more shape. I wear a size M and find it true to size, with just enough room for layering underneath.

I own the Gaspard in both red and pink, and I love having both when I want to bring a little color into my wardrobe. The red has been especially fun to wear again this fall, but it’s a color I reach for throughout the year with denim, cream, brown and other neutrals. It’s also one of the more versatile cardigans in my collection; I’ve worn mine buttoned in front, reversed with the buttons down the back, open over a simple top, or draped over the shoulders. I wear a size S and find the fit generous, so if you’re between sizes, I’d personally choose the smaller one.

I’ve had my Barry for several years now in a soft baby blue that I picked up during one of Sézane’s Archive Sales. I don’t believe this exact shade is currently available in the Barry, although Sézane often brings both the Barry and Gaspard back in different color rotations with each collection. If you love this shade, there’s a very similar baby blue currently available in the Gaspard here.

Like the Gaspard, the Barry can be worn front or back, open or buttoned, which is part of what has kept it in rotation for so long. I wear a size S and find the fit quite relaxed, so if you’re between sizes, I’d choose the smaller size.

Along with the pieces featured above, I pulled together a few more Sézane pieces I love and that I currently have my eye on for fall and winter. Some are longtime favorites already in my wardrobe, while others are newer styles I think are especially beautiful this season:

Final Thoughts

Sézane has been part of my knitwear wardrobe for years, and the Betty, Gaspard and Barry are still pieces I genuinely enjoy wearing season after season.

What I like most is that the styles all bring something a little different. Some are softer and more relaxed, others have more structure, and there are always a few details that give each piece its own personality.

This year, the Pauline and Joseph were the new styles that caught my eye, and I’ve loved mixing them in with the pieces already in my closet. The Pauline feels especially flattering with its defined waist and fuller sleeves, while the Joseph has that cozy, easy feel I always want once the weather starts to cool.

That’s usually how I like to approach a new season anyway: bring back the pieces I already love, add something new when it feels right, and find a few different ways to wear it all.
