18 European Brands With Timeless Trench Coats for Fall
Earlier this year, I shared an edit dedicated to French trench coats, and with fall collections beginning to arrive, it felt like the perfect time for a little seasonal update.
So many European brands have started introducing their new outerwear for fall, and now is a particularly good time to start looking before some of the most-loved styles and colors begin to sell out.
A trench coat is one of those foundational pieces I firmly believe almost everyone could use in their wardrobe, especially if you love that effortless French and European approach to getting dressed. It is timeless, endlessly versatile and one of the easiest layers to throw over everything from denim and a simple knit to dresses, trousers and everyday basics.
I’ve collected several trench coats over the years, and many remain among the coats I reach for most when the weather cools down. More recently, I added the Sézane Clyde to my wardrobe after having it on my wishlist for years. Now I’m just waiting for this California heat wave to disappear so I can wear and style it because I truly cannot wait!

1. Sézane
Founded in Paris in 2013 by Morgane Sézalory, Sézane has become one of the most recognizable French fashion brands for its modern take on the Parisian wardrobe. The collections blend timeless staples with thoughtful seasonal updates, from knitwear and tailoring to accessories and outerwear designed to be worn year after year.
As I mentioned in the introduction, I recently added the Clyde Trench Coat to my own wardrobe after having it on my wishlist for years. There are also so many other Sézane coats catching my eye this season. The Bobby feels like a slightly cropped take on the Clyde silhouette, while the Scott Trench Coat is such a classic if you are looking for a timeless everyday option. I also love the new Jonas Coat, especially the plaid version.

2. Rosaé Paris
Rosaé Paris is a French fashion brand built around the idea of choosing better, with a focus on timeless design, beautiful materials, thoughtful cuts and pieces created to earn a lasting place in your wardrobe. The collections are designed by women for women, with particular attention given to natural fibers, quality and limited production. Whenever possible, Rosaé works with ateliers in France and across Europe, while also incorporating upcycled fabrics from luxury houses into select pieces.
One of my absolute favorites from the collection right now is the Gulliver Cape. I love a cape-style coat, and this belted version feels especially chic. I actually recently ordered a cape trench from Chloé de Barros and cannot wait to wear it, so clearly this silhouette is very much on my mind for fall. The Gulliver has that beautiful draped shape while the belt gives it a little more structure and definition.
I also love some of Rosaé’s more classic styles, including the Saturnin and the Gaston, which feel like timeless options if you are looking for a more traditional trench silhouette while still keeping that distinctly French feel.

Founded in Barcelona in 1988, eseOese is a Spanish fashion brand known for relaxed, timeless pieces designed for everyday life. The collections are inspired by natural elegance, comfort and the women around them, with particular attention given to fabric, fit and the more artisanal side of the design process. The brand develops its collections in its own atelier, overseeing each stage with a focus on quality and pieces that feel easy to live in.
I love this brand, and you may have already seen me mention eseOese in my European clothing spring edit. Their style always feels relaxed but still has that little je ne sais quoi that makes even the simplest pieces feel special.
Their trench coats especially caught my eye this season for one very big reason: they’re reversible. If you know me, you know I love a clothing item that can be worn in multiple ways, so the idea of getting completely different looks out of one coat feels like such a smart addition to a wardrobe.

You’ve probably seen me share Massimo Dutti several times before, most recently in my edit on 18 European Clothing Brands With Elevated Wardrobe Staples. Founded in Spain in 1985, the brand originally began with menswear before expanding into womenswear, building its aesthetic around quality, timelessness and understated elegance.
It is one of those brands I always like to keep on my radar for elevated wardrobe foundations, from beautifully cut trousers and tailoring to knitwear, shirts and outerwear. There is a simplicity to the collections that makes the pieces incredibly easy to wear, while the attention to cut, fabric and proportion keeps everything feeling polished and considered.
Their trench coat selection is especially strong this season, particularly if you have been looking for one of the funnel-neck or high-neck silhouettes that are appearing everywhere right now. It gives the classic trench a slightly more modern, architectural feel while still remaining incredibly wearable.
One of my personal favorites is the Cotton High-Neck Trench Coat. I love the clean shape and higher neckline, and it is exactly the kind of piece that can make a simple fall outfit feel instantly more elevated. COS is another classic if you are looking for that modern, minimalist feel. It has become one of my personal favorites for really good wardrobe staples, and if you’ve been following along for a while, you’ve probably seen me mention the Clean Cut T-Shirt more than once. It is one of my favorite white T-shirts and a perfect example of what COS does so well: taking an everyday essential and making it feel more elevated through the fabric, fit and cut.
Launched in London in 2007, COS has built its identity around lasting design, quality and a balance of contemporary and timeless pieces. You’ll find plenty of true wardrobe foundations, from T-shirts and trousers to knitwear, shirting and outerwear, but there is often something slightly unexpected about the proportion, shape or construction that makes even a simple piece feel more interesting.
Their trench coats are especially good if you love a more modern interpretation of the classic silhouette. I also love the Mock-Neck Cotton Trench Coat, especially in both the khaki and black colorways. The higher neckline gives it that slightly architectural look COS does so well and feels like another beautiful take on the high-neck outerwear trend we are seeing so much this season.

Founded in 2013, & Other Stories is a Swedish fashion brand within the H&M Group, with its creative roots tied to Stockholm and Paris. The brand is built around creativity and self-expression, offering ready-to-wear, shoes, accessories and beauty with a focus on pieces that feel current while still earning a lasting place in your wardrobe.
I’ve always liked & Other Stories for finding pieces that feel a little more special while still being easy to work into an everyday wardrobe. One of my favorite skirts is actually from the brand, and I often find that they strike a really nice balance between trend-led details, classic staples and approachable price points.
Their trench coats are especially catching my eye this season. The Short Trench Coat is one of my favorites if you like a slightly more modern, cropped silhouette, while the Relaxed Trench Coat has that easy, effortless shape that works so well layered over simple fall outfits. Both feel like great options if you want a classic trench with a slightly more contemporary feel.

ARKET is another brand I always like to keep on my radar for really strong wardrobe staples. The aesthetic is clean and understated, but the proportions and details often give even the most classic pieces a slightly more modern feel.
Their outerwear is especially good this season, and I’m loving the Scarf Trench Coat, which brings a softer, more directional feel to the classic trench silhouette. The Car Coat is another great option if you prefer something streamlined and easy to layer, while the Cotton Coat immediately caught my eye because of the different neckline. It feels like a subtle update, but it completely changes the look of the coat and gives it a more contemporary feel.

It is another brand I love for bringing a little more personality to wardrobe staples, especially through interesting proportions, refined details and silhouettes that still feel easy to wear.
If you’re looking for beautiful, elevated staples, ME+EM always has plenty of options, and their outerwear is no exception. The collection tends to take classic wardrobe pieces and give them a slightly more considered feel through the cut, fabric or styling details.
The Trench Coat Co-ord especially caught my eye this season. It has that timeless trench feel, but the styling and proportions make it look incredibly polished and modern. It is a beautiful option if you want something classic enough to wear for years while still feeling a little more distinctive than a traditional trench.

9. Róhe
I absolutely love the world of Róhe and had to include the brand in this edit. Based in Amsterdam, Róhe has such a beautiful approach to elevated dressing, with collections that feel incredibly refined while still being rooted in pieces you can imagine building a wardrobe around for years.
The brand designs from its in-house atelier inside Huis de Vicq, a 17th-century canal house in Amsterdam that serves as both its creative space and a source of inspiration. There is a real intersection of fashion, art, architecture and craftsmanship within the Róhe universe, and I love how that translates into the clothes. The atelier focuses heavily on construction and fit, combining traditional techniques like mannequin draping and in-house pattern making with a contemporary approach to tailoring.
If you’re looking to invest in a few truly beautiful pieces, Róhe is definitely a brand to have on your radar. Their classic trench coat is exactly the kind of piece I can imagine wearing for years and years. The silhouette feels timeless, but the cut and construction give it that elevated, slightly architectural quality the brand does so well.
And while it is not technically a trench coat, I also have to mention their pony hair coat in cheetah print because I am completely obsessed with it. It immediately caught my eye and feels like such a statement piece for fall, especially if you love the idea of keeping the rest of your wardrobe simple and letting one incredible coat do all the work.

10. By Malene Birger
You may have already seen By Malene Birger featured in a few of my previous edits, including my going-out tops guide and my recent roundup of European brands for timeless wardrobe staples. Founded in Copenhagen in 2003, the Danish brand is rooted in Scandinavian minimalism, with a focus on refined fabrics, feminine details and silhouettes designed with longevity in mind.
What I particularly love about By Malene Birger is that the pieces often start with a classic wardrobe foundation and then introduce just enough detail to make it feel more distinctive. An interesting neckline, oversized proportion, draped silhouette or unexpected finish can completely shift the look while still keeping everything incredibly wearable.
Their outerwear is especially beautiful, and I’m loving the Alaya Trench Coat as a classic option. It has that timeless shape you can imagine reaching for year after year, while still feeling polished and elevated in the way By Malene Birger does so well.
I also love the Alisandra Trench Jacket, which gives you a cropped version of that classic trench look. It feels like such an easy way to bring the silhouette into outfits with high-waisted trousers, denim or longer skirts while giving the overall look a slightly more modern proportion.

Founded in Paris in 2016 by Jeanne Damas, Rouje is a French fashion brand built around a very personal vision of femininity, inspired by Parisian women, vintage references, film, photography and the idea of dressing in a way that still lets the woman herself come first. That perspective runs through everything from the clothing and accessories to the beauty line, and it is part of what has made Rouje such a recognizable name in modern French style.
Rouje is another one of my favorite French clothing brands, and you may have already seen it featured throughout Maéva in edits dedicated to shoes, handbags, dresses and more. I’ve also visited the Rouje boutique in Paris several times over the years and already own pieces from the brand, so it is one I always like to keep an eye on when new collections arrive.
For fall, I’m especially loving the Theodora Trench Coat. It feels very true to the Rouje aesthetic, with that feminine, slightly vintage-inspired Parisian feel that makes a classic trench look a little more distinctive. It is the kind of piece I can easily imagine wearing with denim, loafers, boots or over a dress, which is exactly what I want from a trench coat.

12. Balzac Paris
Balzac Paris is another French brand worth having on your radar, especially if you love feminine pieces with a slightly playful, distinctly Parisian feel. Founded in 2014 by Chrysoline de Gastines, Charles Fourmaux and Victorien de Gastines, the brand was created around the idea of building a more responsible approach to fashion. Today, its T.P.R. (Toujours Plus Responsable) philosophy continues to guide the brand, with a focus on ethics, transmission and reducing its environmental impact. Balzac Paris has also officially been a société à mission since 2022.
You may have recently seen the brand included in my edit dedicated to French brands with suede handbags, but Balzac Paris is also one I love exploring for ready-to-wear and outerwear. The collections tend to balance classic French wardrobe staples with just enough color, print or unexpected detail to make them feel a little more distinctive.
For trench coats, I’m especially loving the Eugenia Trench, which feels like a beautiful take on the classic silhouette. I also have my eye on the upcoming Talma Trench. The neckline immediately caught my attention, and the pink stripe detailing gives it such a different feel from the more traditional beige trenches throughout this edit. It is a great example of how a familiar wardrobe staple can still feel fresh and full of personality.

13. Sandro
Sandro is another one of my favorite French brands and one I especially love for its elevated ready-to-wear. Founded in Paris in 1984 by Evelyne Chetrite alongside her husband Didier, the Maison has built its identity around a distinctly Parisian approach to dressing, balancing masculine and feminine influences, understated elegance and contemporary design. Evelyne continues to lead the women’s collections today, while her son Ilan Chetrite oversees Sandro Homme.
I already own several dresses from Sandro, and I especially love their knit dresses. They are definitely an investment, but mine have become some of the pieces I receive the most compliments on whenever I wear them. I love how elevated and beautifully cut they feel, and it is a brand I naturally keep coming back to season after season.
Their outerwear is just as beautiful, and this fall there are a few trench coats that really caught my eye. I’m especially loving the Navy Trench with Pleated Leather Collar. The pleated detailing gives such an original twist to a timeless silhouette, while the navy color keeps it feeling incredibly chic and easy to wear. It is exactly the kind of piece that feels classic enough to keep for years, but still has something special about it.
I also love the Belted Double-Breasted Trench, which is currently on sale. It has that more traditional trench feel, with a polished shape and belted waist that makes it such an easy option if you are looking for something timeless and versatile.

14. Barbour
Barbour is one of those iconic British heritage brands that hardly needs an introduction, especially when it comes to outerwear. Founded in South Shields in the North East of England in 1894, the family-owned brand has built more than a century of history around functional jackets and coats inspired by the British countryside.
Of course, Barbour is best known for its legendary wax jackets, several of which have been on my personal wishlist for a very long time, but the brand also has some beautiful trench-inspired options that I really wanted to include in this edit.
I’m especially loving the Antonella Cord Trench Coat, which brings a little more texture to the classic trench silhouette. The Delilah Tartan Showerproof Jacket also immediately caught my eye. I love seeing tartan and plaid appearing throughout so many collections this fall, and this feels like such a natural way to incorporate the pattern into outerwear.
And if you’re looking for something a little more classic, the Short Greta Showerproof Trench Coat is another favorite. It has that timeless trench-inspired look in a shorter silhouette that feels incredibly easy to work into an everyday fall wardrobe.

The Maison blends Parisian ease with a slightly bohemian sensibility, creating clothing and accessories that feel polished while still being incredibly wearable.
You probably already know how much I love the brand’s iconic 24H Bag, but Gérard Darel is also such a great brand to keep on your radar for wardrobe staples. Their collections always have that sophisticated simplicity I associate with effortless French style, from knitwear and denim to tailoring and outerwear.
Their new trench arrivals are especially catching my eye this season. I love the Vania Short Cotton Trench Coat for a more compact take on the classic silhouette, while the Serge Long Trench Coat in brown feels incredibly chic for fall and such an easy alternative to traditional beige. I’m also loving the Judy Suede Trench Coat, which brings in that rich suede texture I keep coming back to this season and gives the classic trench shape a completely different feel.

Founded by best friends Barbara Boccara and Sharon Krief, ba&sh is a French fashion brand created around the idea of bringing their dream wardrobe to life and sharing it with other women. The brand has become known for its distinctly Parisian spirit, blending freedom, femininity and an easy elegance that makes the collections feel both relaxed and expressive.
If you are looking for trench coats with a slightly more boho-inspired feel, ba&sh is definitely a brand worth exploring. The pieces still feel polished, but there is often a softness and ease to the silhouettes that sets them apart from more classic or structured takes on the trench.
I’m especially loving the Winnie Cropped Coat, which feels like such a fun and wearable option for everyday outfits, and the Wili Long Coat, which has that same effortless spirit in a longer silhouette. Both feel like beautiful choices if you love outerwear that leans a little more relaxed, feminine and bohemian while still feeling chic.

Maje is another iconic French fashion brand to have on your radar, especially if you love a slightly more playful take on Parisian style. That sense of personality carries through the collections, and it is one of the things I always find interesting about Maje. Even when the brand starts with a classic wardrobe staple, there is usually a detail that gives it a little more presence.
For trench coats, I’m especially loving the Long Belted Trench with Gold Buttons. The silhouette itself feels timeless, but the gold buttons add just enough polish and make it feel a little more elevated and distinctive than a traditional trench. It is such a beautiful option if you want something classic enough to wear season after season while still having that signature Maje touch.

18. Burberry
And finally, Burberry. If we’re talking about trench coats, we of course have to mention arguably the most iconic trench coat of them all. The British fashion house dates back to 1856, and its connection to outerwear runs especially deep. Thomas Burberry developed gabardine in the late 19th century, creating a lighter, more breathable fabric for protection from the rain, and the brand later developed the trench coat for military use during the First World War.
A Burberry trench is certainly an investment, but it is also the kind of piece I can imagine keeping for decades and eventually passing down. The silhouette has remained iconic for generations, which is exactly what makes it feel so timeless. Burberry’s Heritage Trench Coats are still made at the brand’s Castleford factory in Yorkshire, another detail that makes these pieces feel particularly special.
Two of my personal favorites are the Long Kensington Heritage Trench Coat and the Mid-Length Chelsea Heritage Trench Coat. I love the longer, more dramatic silhouette of the Kensington, while the Chelsea offers that same quintessential Burberry feel in an incredibly wearable mid-length shape. Both are the kind of pieces I can imagine becoming true wardrobe signatures, styled year after year with everything from denim and loafers to dresses, tailoring and knitwear.
Note: A friend of mine owns the Mid-Length Chelsea Heritage Trench Coat and recommends sizing up, especially if you are between sizes, because of its more fitted and structured cut. She also shared that Burberry’s trench coats have been described as “the stiletto of trench coats,” which feels like such a fitting way to capture their sharp, tailored feel. If you’re considering a trench and plan to layer it over knits or heavier pieces, sizing is definitely something to keep in mind.
For me, this is the kind of investment piece that makes the most sense when you think about longevity. A beautiful trench can become part of your wardrobe for years and years, styled in countless ways and returned to season after season. If you love the look but prefer to explore the pre-loved market, Burberry is also one of those heritage brands you can often find through reputable secondhand and vintage retailers. I would simply recommend shopping from a trusted source and checking authenticity when purchasing pre-owned.
Whether you are actually shopping for one or simply looking for inspiration, Burberry feels like the perfect place to end this edit. Few pieces of outerwear are quite as instantly recognizable or as closely connected to the history of the trench coat itself!
