Inside La Bonne Brosse: My Visit to the Paris Boutique

I’ve been on a bit of a hair care journey over the past year. I have very fine, very straight hair, and one of my biggest challenges has always been finding that balance between roots that seem to get oily incredibly quickly and ends that can start feeling dry between hair appointments.

As I started paying a little more attention to my routine and looking for ways to keep my hair feeling healthier, fuller and more balanced, one of my friends mentioned something I honestly hadn’t given much thought to before: a good hairbrush can make a real difference.

I was skeptical. A hairbrush had always just been a hairbrush to me, and I wasn’t entirely convinced that changing mine would have much of an impact. But the more I looked into it, the more I kept coming across La Bonne Brosse, a French hairbrush brand known for creating brushes designed around different hair types and needs.

So on my most recent trip to Paris, when I realized I was staying just a short walk from La Bonne Brosse’s Rue de Richelieu boutique, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to stop in, learn a little more about the brushes in person and finally find out whether the right hairbrush could actually make a difference for my hair.

Rather than treating a hairbrush as an everyday afterthought, La Bonne Brosse approaches brushing as a ritual, one designed to care for both the hair and scalp while encouraging us to rely a little less on endless products.

That philosophy is at the heart of what the brand calls “slow beauty.” La Bonne Brosse works with skilled partners and manufacturers to create brushes intended to last, with an emphasis on quality materials, traditional savoir-faire and French craftsmanship. Each hairbrush is made in France and hand-assembled using artisanal know-how, which makes the pieces feel even more special and reinforces the brand’s slower, more thoughtful approach to beauty.

What I found particularly interesting, especially as someone trying to simplify and improve my own hair routine, is that the brand doesn’t offer just one universal brush. Its collection is designed around different hair types, textures and concerns, with different bristle combinations depending on what your hair needs.

And, of course, it doesn’t hurt that the brushes are beautiful. They come in such a stunning range of colors, with that curved, almost vintage-inspired shape that makes them feel just as much like a beautiful object as a practical hair care tool. You may have even spotted mine in quite a few of my flat lays by now…

I also love that several of the brushes come in different sizes, so you can choose between a larger everyday brush for home or a more compact version that is easy to travel with or slip into your handbag.

With so many different options, though, I was very glad I decided to visit the boutique in person. So let’s talk a little more about my experience at La Bonne Brosse in Paris, how the team helped me choose the right brush for my hair and the one I ultimately went home with!

Inside La Bonne Brosse Boutique

La Bonne Brosse now has two boutiques in Paris, and I visited the brand’s original location in the 1st arrondissement. Nestled along Rue de Richelieu, the intimate boutique sits behind a beautiful storefront and was the brand’s very first dedicated store in Paris.

The space itself is intimate, with a large table at the center showcasing the brand’s colorful brushes, surrounded by a beautiful decor imagined by French artist and designer Sarah Espeute. It is such a charming way to discover the collection because you can see the different colors, sizes and brush types together rather than trying to compare everything on a screen.

The boutique was actually quite lively when I visited, with everyone looking through the different options and chatting with the team about which brush might be right for them. I loved seeing people from seemingly all over the world coming in to add a La Bonne Brosse to their own hair care routine. There was something very fun about realizing we were all there for essentially the same reason: to find a really good hairbrush.

Finding My Perfect La Bonne Brosse Brush

Before visiting, I had already spent some time looking through the different brushes online, but having someone there to guide me made choosing one so much easier.

I explained to the sales associate that I have very fine, straight hair and a sensitive scalp, along with some of the concerns I had been trying to address in my hair care routine. Based on my hair type, she recommended the N.03 brush for me.

The N.03 combines natural boar bristles with nylon fibers and is designed with sensitive or easily unbalanced scalps in mind. According to La Bonne Brosse, the boar bristles help distribute the hair’s natural oils from the roots through the lengths, while the flexible nylon fibers gently detangle and massage the scalp. Considering that my biggest concerns were an oily scalp, dry ends and sensitivity, it made a lot of sense why this particular brush was recommended for me.

From there, my biggest decision was the size.

One thing I know about myself is that I am constantly running around, whether I am traveling, heading to meetings, shooting content or simply out for the day. I wanted my brush to be something I could easily throw into my handbag for quick touch-ups, while still using it as part of my everyday hair care routine in the morning and evening. Because of that, I decided to go with the smaller size, and I am so glad I did.

Then came possibly the hardest decision: the color.

La Bonne Brosse has so many beautiful options. I loved the reds and blues, but I ultimately settled on ivory. It has this slightly vintage, timeless feel that immediately felt the most like my personal style, and it looks just as pretty sitting out at home as it does tucked inside my bag.

Since I knew I wanted to carry the brush around with me, I decided to also purchase one of La Bonne Brosse’s silk pouches to keep it protected inside my handbag and while traveling. It has made the smaller size even more practical because I can bring it everywhere without worrying about damaging the brush or its bristles.

Final Thoughts

After using my La Bonne Brosse for several months now, I can safely say my opinion on whether a hairbrush can really make a difference has completely changed.

It has genuinely become one of my favorite additions to my hair care routine. My hair feels softer, fuller and healthier overall, and I’ve noticed such a difference in its texture and how it feels between hair appointments. One of my biggest concerns before was how quickly my roots would start to feel oily, and that is something I barely notice anymore.

Of course, a hairbrush is only one part of a hair care routine, but for me, switching to La Bonne Brosse has been a little change that has made a surprisingly big difference in the overall look and feel of my hair.

So, safe to say, I’ve been completely converted. I love my little ivory N. 03, it comes practically everywhere with me, and I already have my eye on the larger size to keep at home.
